AMD Presents next-generation Ryzen based on Zen 3 & EPYC Milan CPUs during this years’ Financial Analyst Day. These are expected to be available in the later part of 2020. The new Zen 3 based family is built on 7nm architecture and will bring huge gains in performance per watt and IPC as well.
Zen 3 Based EPYC Milan Server & Ryzen 4000 Desktop CPUs to come this year & Zen 4 Based EPYC Genoa coming next year
Based on the latest roadmap, the highlights are Zen 3 CPUs, the 4th Gen Ryzen 4000 series desktop processors, and the 3rd Gen EPYC Milan server processors.
As of now, AMD has announced that the Zen 3 CPU will be based on 7nm+ architecture. But this may change to 7nm at a later date. In 2020 we can expect Zen 3 (7nm) and zen 4 (5nm) replacing it next year. We want to point out the possibility of Zen 4 Series being available towards the end of 2021 or early 2022 as Zen 3 will only be available towards the end of this year. It is only sensible that they give a good one year gap between releases.
AMD has confirmed that Zen 3 will have a new CPU architecture to deliver significant IPC gains of up to 17%, faster clocks, and even more cores than the previous generation. We can expect a 50% increase in the floating-point operations and notable cache redesign.
AMD will present a new CDNA (computer DNA) product lineup for data center works aiming at machine learning applications and AI. Sony and Microsoft will introduce the next-gen gaming consoles based on the custom CPUs and GPUs from AMD.
Recently AMD managed to win a contract to supply a new supercomputer called El Capitan, which might be the most powerful yet. Its power will outshine the current top 200 supercomputers combined
. This machine is being developed for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. It will be the first to break the 2 Exaflop mark. The project that will be completed by early 2023 will feature Zen-4 based Epyc “Genoa’ CPUs, Radeon instant GPUs and Infinity Architecture interconnect.
