The tech giant Microsoft announced series of updates during its Build 2022 developer conference event and the updates are targeted to improve the performance and offer an amazing experience to the users. Microsoft has announced updates for Windows along with Edge browser and Microsoft Teams. The company has also announced updates to Microsoft Store as well and that includes the ability to serve ads and allow users to restore apps. Updates of Windows
Let’s start with Windows operating system, the company has announced updates for the new Windows 11 and bringing improvements to the newly implemented features which have refreshed the user experience with features including a center-aligned Start menu and widgets.
It is revealed that the developers of Windows 11 will allow users to view apps available on the Microsoft Store directly using the Windows Search and users will see a Get from Store button for each app on the search results. That means finding and installing the applications will be easier. The operating system will also get a new feature that will enable users to automatically restore their applications directly from the Microsoft Store and this will be handy for the users who switches computer. Moreover, this feature will also help developers to get their customers back.
The support for Android applications via the Amazon Appstore was one of the most highlighting elements of the new Windows 11 operating system and the same is currently available in the United States only. But Microsoft has Now announced that the preview of the same will be available in 5 more countries namely France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, India is not on the list.
Microsoft has introduced the Microsoft Store Ads and this will help developers to run ad campaigns directly in the Store. Having said that, the implementation of the advertisements will also help Microsoft to increase revenue.
The company has also removed the waitlist program for Win32 apps in the Microsoft Store and Microsoft has also announced support for third-party widgets on Windows 11. It is said that the developers can able to develop widgets as “companion experiences” for their Win32 and Progressive Web Apps (PWAs). The new setup will be powered by Microsoft’s Adaptive Cards.
Microsoft has also updated the OneNote and the same is getting a new visual treat. It is also getting pen and voice functionalities along with the capability of artificial intelligence to recognize inputs from the voice in the form of dictations, images using the inbuilt camera of the device, and via handwriting through a stylus pen.
Microsoft Edge updates
The nostalgic Internet Explorer browser will be killed next month and before that Microsoft is improving its new Microsoft Edge browser. Microsoft Edge browser is now receiving WebView2 for WinUI 2 and Universal Windows Platform (UWP). It is also getting the new embedded Web control is built on top of the Microsoft Edge Chromium platform.
The company is also improving PWAs on the browser by enabling new APIs and improving their notifications. Moreover, Microsoft is bringing the ability to find PWAs along with native apps in the Microsoft Store. The company has also introduced a new Apps Hub experience and this enables app sync across devices in the Edge browser.
Microsoft Edge is also getting a simplified DevTools interface and the same will offer a new compact and customizable Activity Bar. It is also featuring 30 tools to help personalize workflows for developers.
Microsoft Teams updates
Microsoft Teams has also updated and the same receives a new feature called Live Share that will enable you to share applications in your virtual meetings. Developers will get new preview extensions through the Teams SDK and the same will enable them to create live share experiences for their applications.
The company has also introduced the Azure Communication Services sample app builder and this will enable developers to create and implement a sample application for virtual appointments. This will enable users to book appointments and join a Teams meeting.
Microsoft has also announced Power Apps during the event and the applications are coming with the ability to generate a working low-code app from inputs such as Figma design files, PDFs, paper forms, and a picture of a hand-drawn app. The company is also using cognitive AI technology to enable Power Apps to scan the inputs and produce working app controls.
Microsoft also joined its hand with Qualcomm to introduce Project Volterra — a new developer kit based on the Snapdragon compute platform. The new project is meant to help developers build new AI apps using the Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK for Windows toolkit. The mini-PC will feature a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to process AI algorithms natively.
