One major factor of buying Google’s Pixel phones are their marvelous camera. The way their camera takes those amazing shots with just a single lens while all other OEMs are moved to dual or even triple cameras is phenomenal. Also many of us like that pure stock UI with fast and latest updates. But are these two reasons justify to spend that hefty price tag? For most of us, NO.
But seems like Google has found a solution to experience that Pixel experience without paying that much amount, and the solution is Pixel 3 Lite and 3 XL Lite. We have come across a rumour which suggests Q2 of 2019 as the launch period of these Lite versions. Now today, the actual smartphone in its full glory is leaked out and it certainly deserves to get attention. So let’s have a look at Google Pixel 3 Lite.
Starting off with design, this Lite version looks very similar to regular Pixel 3, just the bezels are a bit more thicker on Lite. Also the material used in this Lite version looks like plastic, whereas regular Pixel 3 has polycarbonate metal material with some glass around camera setup. The dual front firing speakers of Pixel 3 is not present in the Lite, as it has single speaker at the bottom, near the USB Type-C port. The rear camera setup is similar to the Pixel 3, but on the front there’s only single camera instead of dual. But most importantly, the 3.5mm headphone jack is back on Pixel device after around 2 generations. If this Pixel 3 Lite will make good sales, then surely 3.5mm jack will be one major reason.
Now coming to the specifications, this Pixel 3 Lite will have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 670 processor with Adreno 615 GPU, which is a high-end mid-range chipset built on 10nm process. It sports a compact 5.56 inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 2160 x 1080 resolution and 434 ppi. No information about the screen protection as of now. It has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage without any expandable storage as usual. The 32GB storage is low for a 2019 upper mid-range phone, especially from a tier one and reputed brand.
Coming to the camera, it has single 12MP Rear Camera with f1.8 aperture, 28mm wide angle lens, 1.4µm pixel size, and OIS. Hardware looks very familiar to Pixel 3, and seeing the sample images in the source video, software development also looks similar to regular Pixel 3. The picture clarity is excellent and can beat every other smartphone in its price range (pricing might be around OnePlus 6, my guess). On the front there is an 8MP shooter, no other information is available for the front camera. It runs on pure Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, which is very obvious. The battery capacity is the same as Pixel 3 i.e. 2915mAh.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. If this Pixel 3 Lite will launch at a reasonable price, then surely it will be a killer phone in terms of camera and software. Surely Snapdragon 670 can’t compete with high-end CPUs, but it will be enough for day to day task and casual gaming (seeing the power and efficiency of its predecessor, Snapdragon 660).
But as this is not an official launch, don’t take the camera samples too seriously, as it might be there just to fool. So take those samples with a pinch of salt. We will get much new information on this Pixel 3 Lite, and probably on Pixel 3 XL Lite as well. So stay tuned with us for more information.
