The popular chipset maker Qualcomm not only offers chips for mobiles but the company also offers chipsets for wearable devices as well and now the company has unveiled its new chips and the same called Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chips.
Just like the mobile chipsets, the company has also changed the naming setup of the chipsets of wearables as well and the company has removed the Snapdragon Wear branding.
The Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 is meant for the budget devices and the Snapdragon W5+ is for more premium wearable devices. The main difference between the newly announced chipsets, the non-Plus model is not featuring an AON Co-Processor.
The new chips feature a main processor and that will handle interactive tasks, and there’s also a co-processor for an always-on display which will save battery life of the device.
The co-processor can handle tasks related to audio, health tracking features, keyword detection for digital assistants, and notifications. It is also supporting onboard machine learning.
The latest Snapdragon W5 and W5+ Gen 1 chips are manufactured using a 4nm process for the main processor and the co-processor is made using a 22nm process.
Coming to the battery life, it is claimed that is the latest Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 can provide up to 50% longer battery life. It is also revealed that the first set of smartwatches which will come with the power of the latest Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 will be the Oppo Watch 3. The device will be official in the market next month.
