Intel has announced three new chips as part of its 12th generation Alder Lake lineup led by the Intel Core i9-1200K model. It offers 16 cores, including eight P-cores and eight E-cores. The 24-thread chip can reach clock speeds of up to 5.2GHz using Intel’s Turbo Boost Max 3.0 technology.
This new Intel 12th generation chip comes with support for 20 PCIe lines (16 PCIe 5.0, 4 PCIe 4.0 paths), DDR5 memory up to 4800 MT/s, and large L3 and L2 cache sizes. Major changes to the hardware mean that the chips require a new Z690 motherboard that adds support for Wi-Fi 6E and USB 3.2 Gen 2 × 2 data transfer.
Next up is the Intel Core i7-12700K with 12 cores (eight P-cores and four e-cores) and 20 threads. The Core i5-12700K has a 16-threaded 10-core processor (six P-cores and four E-cores). In addition, all three chips come in the KF variant without integrated Intel UHD graphics.
In terms of pricing, the newly announced Intel 12th Generation Alder Lake chips are slightly more expensive than their predecessors. Prices in the US range from $ 589 (about Rs 43,380 before tax) for the top end Core i9-12900K to $ 264 (about Rs 19,445 before tax) for the Core i5-12600KF.
Intel does not stop here. The company has ambitious plans for hybrid alder architecture in the future, including mobile chips and ultra mobile chips for laptops and other portable devices.
