The semiconductor manufacturer Qualcomm is reportedly working on a successor to the latest and greatest Snapdragon 888 which will be called Snapdragon 888 Pro. According to the leaks, the SoC will make it to the market during the second half of this year.
According to the Chinese leakster, Digital Chat Station, the new SoC is already being tested by the Chinese smartphone manufacturers. He also says that the smartphone powered by this chipset will debut in the third quarter of this year.Unlike last year, more Chinese OEMs will use the upcoming SoC according to the Weibo post.
The Snapdragon 888 Pro will have the same Cortex X1 core leading the charge and will have a higher clock speed, and the other cores will likely retain the same speed. Regarding the GPU, we might not see a huge bump again this year.
There are already concerns about the stability, throttling and battery efficiency of the Snapdragon 888 SoC. Many of the first smartphones that are powered by the SoC, like the Xiaomi MI 11, were running hotter in longer gaming sessions. Even now there are reports of over heating issues and battery drain in smartphones powered the chipset. We hope the company turns things around and fix these issues with the upcoming chipset.
