The year 2020 is not so memorable for us due to the Covid pandemic, lockdown, which ultimately resulted in world recession. And of course this thing impacted the smartphone industry. The value for money we were getting in smartphones last year was missing this year. We saw a lot of cost cuttings in smartphones, but still the companies managed to provide good smartphones and kept the heated competition alive.
So this year’s “Top 5” list of smartphone is very interesting. Before we start listing, let me tell you the criteria from which we have chosen the smartphones. For Midrange smartphones, we choose the price criteria from ₹15,000 to ₹30,000. And we will include best smartphones of different varieties, like power house, camera, different user experience, etc. So without further ado, let’s look at the Best Midrange Smartphones of 2020
1. Realme X3 Superzoom (₹27,999) :
The first position in this list is bragged by Realme’s X3 Superzoom. This is the cheapest smartphone to come with Snapdragon 855+ chipset. Though it is last year’s chipset but is still very much capable and a beast. Except built-in 5G and few tweaks, Snapdragon 865 & 855+ are very similar to each other. So this would be a perfect gaming smartphone at this price, as it also has 120hz refresh rate. And not just the chipset, this smartphone also has one of the best camera setup at this price. The highlight here is it’s periscope telephoto lens with 5X optical zoom. This sensor is hard to find in this price segment. Other than these two key features also, this smartphone is a good value at this price range.
2. Poco X3 (₹15,999) :
Poco X3 sits on the 2nd position in this list as it provides excellent value for the money even in this recession. It’s the first smartphone to have Snapdragon 732 chipset in India. Also it’s the cheapest smartphone to have 120hz refresh rate display. The IP53 splash-proofing makes it more secure device than others in this segment. Camera setup is typical quad camera setup with two useless sensors (macro & depth). But the primary camera is excellent in day-time and decent in low light/night photos. The massive 6,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging is good for long time gaming, binge watching, long video conferencing, etc. Keeping the ads situation of MIUI aside (which is very less in Poco devices), this Poco X3 is a complete value for what it offers.
3. OnePlus Nord 5G (₹24,999) :
This year is special for OnePlus fans as OnePlus made it’s comeback in sub 30k segment after a long time. The OnePlus Nord 5G is OnePlus’s entry into premium mid-range segment. But there are few points on why it’s not on 1st or 2nd position in this list, despite having major advantages like Oxygen OS. First reason is build quality. The framing is made up of plastic which makes it less premium in this price. And not just the premium feel, many users are having quality issues with the build. Then the camera quality is also not that impressive as compared to the competition. Lastly, it is the cheap marketing tactic of OnePlus. The base variant which comes with 64GB storage is out of stock most of the time. That’s why technically the price starts from ₹24,999 but actually it is ₹27,999. Other things about this device is also not that special, only reason to opt for this device is Oxygen OS at lower price Hope that OnePlus will fix these issues and will bring a better successor in 2021. 4. Samsung Galaxy F41 (₹15,499) :
Samsung is also doing fairly well this year in mid-range segment. Though their smartphones are generally for normal user and not for gamers, but there are certain advantages of having a Samsung devices instead of a Chinese smartphone with a lot of horse power. And Galaxy F41 is by far the best value Samsung offered in mid-range. It has a Super AMOLED display which is now rare in 2020 at this price range. Then their OneUI is also improving day by day and is now one of the best UI in budget & midrange segments. There are no ads and it’s bug free as compared to earlier Samsung UIs. The camera processing is also very great in this device. The 6,000mAh battery is also very massive for an average use of 2 days. And as it’s made by Samsung, the service centres are far more reachable than other Chinese companies in rural areas. Overall, it’s a good buy for those who want cleaner UI and a good brand service. 5. Motorola Moto G 5G (₹20,999) :
From last many years Motorola’s journey in Indian smartphone market is going down & down. But the year 2020 is relatively good for Motorola, or should we say 2021 is going to be good for Motorola. Just recently Motorola launched their new Moto G 5G smartphone in India which became the cheapest smartphone in India with 5G support (though 5G is not available in India, but that’s a different story). It’s the first device to have Snapdragon 750G chipset, which is a very powerful midrange chipset even for gaming. And as it’s Motorola the device will have clean stock UI. Because there are still a short group of people who prefers stock UI than other custom UIs. But sadly other aspects of the phone are not that impressive and that leads it to be a bit expensive for the asking price. Still it’s the best choice for stock UI experience in this range.
So these are our list of Best 5 Midrange smartphones of 2020. This was still a better year for smartphones then what we expected when the pandemic hit the world earlier this year. And we hope that 2021 will bring a lot more exciting smartphones and a lot of happiness to your lives. Do check out our other Best of 2020 articles for more quick through of this year.
