Earlier this month, the Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei launched its first pop-up smartphone camera in the market of India, and the device is called Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) which was announced in May this year for the global market. Well, the device is coming with good looking design as well as the popup camera setup, and another highlighting feature of the device is its battery.
If you are looking to purchase a budget-oriented smartphone and wish to have something more in that, then this article will definitely help you. As today, I will review the all new Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) smartphone and will try to give answers to all the questions which are in the minds of a new user who is interested to purchase this smartphone. So, without wasting time let’s get started.
In the box: Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) Review
When we unbox the packet, we will get the smartphone of course along with the charger, USB Type-C cable, sim ejector tool, a transparent case, and the user manual guide as well as warranty card.
Display and build: Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) Review
The device has full screen display and features slim bezels around the display and the bottom chin is bit larger, but it is not ugly. Coming back to the rear side of the device, we can see the triple camera setup along with the fingerprint scanner and the device has good looking design at back. It has a reflective coating and it is coming in two colour options; Emerald Green and Sapphire Blue. The rear side of the smartphone is made of plastic and it gives a glass-like look and offers a premium feel. Moreover, the device also has a curved back and that offers a firm grip to hold the device in the hand.
Moving to the right side of the device, we will get the power button and the volume rockers, and the left side of the device does not have any buttons. The top side of the device has the pop-up camera mechanism along with the hybrid dual SIM card tray and the noise-canceling mic. The bottom part of the device houses USB port along with a regular noise-canceling mic for calls, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and speakers.
Display: Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) Review
It sports a 6.59 inch full HD+ display and has an IPS panel along with 19:5:9 aspect ratio, as the device rocks with a pop-up camera setup there is no notch on the display which is really great thing. However, the device does not have any extra layer of protection on the display which means there is no gorilla glass and that is a sad factor to know. The display is pretty decent but I feel like that the contrast and colour can be improved.
Performance: Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) Review
Under the hood, the device is powered by Kirin 710 octa-core chipset and paired with 4GB RAM along with ARM Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. In India, the device is available with 4GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage and that can be expandable upto 512 GB via MicroSD card. After spending some time with the device, I didn’t find any issue in the performance as it offers pretty decent multitasking and productivity.
Furthermore, the device also comes with the GPU Turbo 3.0 and that enhance the gaming experience as well. I played some popular games like PUBG and Asphalt for some time and the games were playable, but don’t expect high-end performance. However, you will never disappoint for the amount which you spend for the device.
The device also features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and it is not that fast but it is reliable and you can unlock the device with just a tap on the sensor.
Camera: Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) Review
Moving to the photography department, the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) rocks triple rear camera setup and that’s in the combination of 16 MP f/1.8 + 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens + 2 MP f/2.4 depth-sensing, the device also features 16 MP pop-up selfie camera. Now let’s keep the resolution aside, and when it comes to the selfies I just disappointed with the standard mode of the camera. It gives average quality images and when we come to the Portrait mode, the background separation is weak and the edges of the subject are also a bit blurry. We hope that the company will improve the issues in the future updates of the device.
Now when we take images from the rear camera setup, the quality is pretty decent we can see the sharpens for details but its not accurate and the company need to improve the colour vibrancy. And when we take images using the Portrait mode, the rear cameras again has lack of subject background separation which faced with the front camera.
Software and battery: Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) Review
The device runs the EMUI 9 user interface based on Android 9 Pie operating system, I am not a big fan of the EMUI, but while using it for a while, it’s okay and the smartphone comes with the app icons arranges in different screens along with a standard home screen. It also comes with some pre-loaded applications such as Facebook, Netflix, FM radio, and some other applications of the company. I don’t believe that someone will find any confusion while using the interface.
Speaking about the battery, the latest Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) is backed by a 4,000 mAh battery. Which will give you the service for the complete day, but there is no fast charging technology and that’s another disappointing factor of the device.
Verdict: Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) Review
Well, the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) will offer full-screen display without any obstruction. Apart from that, there is nothing much to make the smartphone exciting, but if you are looking for a pocket-friendly smartphone with a trendy feature like the pop-up camera then this phone can be yours. Having said that, if you can spend some more bucks then you can definitely check out the Realme X and Oppo K3 that will give you satisfying and premium features.
