The popular VLC Media Player was banned in India for many months and now it is reported that the ban has been lifted up and the company had a legal battle. It is also reported that MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) and the DoT (Department of Telecommunication) received legal notification from VideoLAN.
It was previously reported that VideoLAN filed a right-to-information (RTI) application with the DoT of India to get information about the reason for banning the application in the country. Now, it is revealed that the ban has been lifted up officially. It is worth mentioning that even after banning the application it was available to download from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
It is also said that VideoLAN who is behind the VLC media player has claimed that the site’s blocking violated both Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and international commitments related to freedom of speech.
So if you are a fan of VLC media player then you can now use the application without any worries because it is now legal to use in the country.
