Since a few couple of weeks, we are hearing about the new operating system of Android i.e. Android P. We also came through various reports, which suggested few new changes of the OS such as iPhone like notch support, tighten the privacy of a user and more. Well, now today the search engine giant Google has released the first developer preview of Android P.
As we know the Android Oreo was version 8.0, and that’s why the new Android P will be Google’s Android version 9.0. The company has released the first developer preview of the new operating system to the first and second generation of Pixel devices. Unfortunately, the search engine giant has dropped Pixel C, Nexus 5X, and Nexus CP from the new developer builds. So, without any delay let’s dive into the article to know what Google is keeping for us in the latest Android 9.0.
UI Changes:
As we updated earlier, Google has changed the user interface of the latest Android 9.0. The developers of the Android 9.0 has given a fresh coat of paint and now in the settings app, the options are colourful and the company also made small changes in the status bar. In the status bar, the company has moved the clock to the left hand side (where we have the network names at present version of Android), and this may be a planed moved by the company to bring the display notch feature on Android. Moving to the quick settings menu, the icons are now rounded and they will be displayed in blue colour, when the feature is enabled. However, in the Android 9.0 developer preview, the ability to expand the quick setting has taken off. I hope that the company will allow this in the final and stable version of the OS.
Ambient Display Finally Displays Battery Info & More:
The Ambient Display was made to show the time and notifications till now, but now in the Android P, the developers finally display battery info and more with the Ambient Display. The notification has centered in the latest developer preview, and there is also a divider between the time and notification information. Well, this is really a great addition by the developers of the operating system as it is one of the most demanded ability.
Changes In Adaptive Brightness:
The developers have made the adaptive brightness feature more better in the latest operating system, as now it will automatically adjust the level of brightness when you go out, which means you don’t need to set the brightness level manually.
New Style For Message Notification:
With the latest Android 9.0, the Mountain View company brings the new style for message notification. Now the notification will show you full conversation can now be shown as stickers and images. Moreover, you will also be presented with the smart replies feature, which will work similar to the Reply app which the company has released recently. Apart from this design changes, the company also provides you new controls in the notifications, when you long press on a notification, it will give you two new options and they are ‘stop notifications’ and keep showing’ in this way you can control the notification of an app.
New Animations:
If you use the first developer preview of Android P, then you will first notice the new animations in the operating system. There is a new animation between activities and a new animation for opening a new activity from the notification panel. Well, in my opinion, this is really good move, as when a new OS releases a user will expect something new and the new animation will be noticed at the initial stage of his or her experience with the operating system.
Night Light:
Google has made the Night Light feature more powerful, as now it allows a user to see when Night Light turns on by just looking at the icon in the quick settings menu. It is a welcome move because a user will now feel more comfortable during the night by enabling the feature quickly.
Changes In Volume Slider, Media & USB:
In the latest Android 9.0, developers of the operating system have changed the design and setup of the volume slider. As until now, we have seen the volume slider comes top of the screen, when we press the volume button. However, in the latest developer preview of Android P will show the volume slider in the middle of the screen and it will be in vertical instead of horizontal. The operating system has also made two changes in the media and USB setting, now when the Bluetooth media output list will be shown as a popup, when the user press on the arrow key in the volume panel. And the developers of the new OS has also given a quick design to the USB settings. Media volume is now the default volume stream, which means no need to play with buttons a lot. And the call volume is now separated, it will now activated only the time when you are in the call.
Pixel Launcher:
There are no big changes in the Pixel Launcher in the Android 9.0, but still, the developer has improved few things in the launcher. Now the search bar gets the microphone icon to allow users to make the voice search, and the background is now more prominent and that’s why it looks more clear and decent. Hey, wait don’t scroll down the page, as you can download the new Pixel Launcher right now (via DroidLife) on your device.
Changes In Battery Saver:
The Android P will not show the orange warning bar in the battery saver mode, which is one of the biggest annoying part of the feature. Now in Android P will show a persistent modification in the notification panel, you can expand the notification to know about the battery saver to know what it actually does. And pressing on the notification will take to the notifications battery saver settings and you can make changes. Moreover, now you can schedule the battery saver. Which means now you can select your desired battery level from the slider to activate the battery saver mode in your desired battery level.
Given Importance To The Screenshot:
Android allowed us to capture screenshot but we need third-party apps to edit the screenshot, as there is no inbuilt ability. However, it is now going to be a history as with the Android 9.0, the developers of the operating system bring screenshot editor feature, which will allow you to edit the captured screenshot before you send it to your near and dear ones. The developers giving more importance in the screenshot area, as now you don’t need to press the combination keys (volume button + power button) to capture a screenshot. As the developers of the new operating system has placed the screenshot button in the power menu, which means now when you press the power button you will get three options; power off, restart and the screenshot button, just tap on the button and you will be able to capture the screenshot easily.
Changes In Text Selection:
The ability to select a text is not a new thing on the Android platform, but with the latest Android operating system, the developers making a small change but it will be handy for those who place a lot with text. As on the Android P, when you select a text and move then it will be zoom to give a better and clear vision to the user.
Improvements In Do Not Disturb:
The developers have made improvements in the Do Not Disturb, as now it shows the duration activity in the quick settings panel. And now the feature will not show you the three modes at the quick settings, you need to tap on it and customize in the settings app.
More Controls In The Connectivity:
Now in the latest Android P, the hotspot will automatically be turned off, when there is no devices are available to connect. This is really a welcome feature, as you will not drain your battery unnecessarily. The operating system also supports multi-Bluetooth, as there is a new developer option which will allow you to add five Bluetooth hands-free devices to connect with the smartphone. It does not allow you to stream to multiple devices, but it will allow you to switch between active Bluetooth connexions, which means you don’t need to wait for the disconnection and reconnect process. The Android 9.0, also allows you to set Wi-Fi as metered and unmetered network. Moreover, the new operating system will also support private DNS.
New Controls In Accessibility Setting:
With the Android P, the developers of the operating system bring new vibration control setting in the Accessibility settings. Which will allow you to set whether or not you want to vibration on or off for the ringing and notifications, and even for touch, and the settings will also allow you to choose the duration of the vibration from low to high. The Accessibility setting also has a new feature, which will allow you to quickly disable the animations.
SysTrace Tool:
The developers of the new operating system, introduces the SysTrace Tool. It attracts the developers but now it also offers a way to easily capture the Systrace from the device and it will allow users to collect traces and analyze it in later.
Other New Changes:
The new operating system allows the rotation to be locked in the landscape mode, the OS also brings changes in the last shown notifications, as now it will show a history of a handful of notification but it will not show the content. It will be handy especially when you’ve dismissed notifications accidentally.
Easter Egg:
Every Android version comes with a new Easter Egg, which gives a fun touch within the operating system. Now in the first developer preview of the Android P, just shows a stylish letter ‘P’ and when you tap on it will change the colour, and it also can be zoom-in or zoom-out by pinching on it. I hope that in the final version of Android P will give a better Easter Egg.
