In a bid to further strengthen its hold on the PC market, AMD has announced its new generation of processors. The new Ryzen 5000 Series of processors are based on the latest Zen 3 architecture. Let us see the specifications and pricing of all the four models unveiled.
AMD Ryzen 9 CPUs
Firstly, we have the top-end Ryzen 9 5950X CPU featuring 16 cores and 32 threads, replacing the 3950X version. The base clock speed is set at 3.4GHz and can be boosted to 4.3GHz. According to AMD the Ryzen 9 lineup has the best single-core and multi-core performance in the industry. It comes with a 64MB L3 cache and a TDP of 105W. Its priced at $749 and will rival the 18-core Core-i9 from Intel.
Next, we have the Ryzen 9 5900X features 12 cores and 24 threads resulting in a base clock speed of 3.7Ghz, which can be boosted to 4.8GHz. According to the company, this is one of the best gaming CPUs available today. It has the same 64MB L3 cache across two chipsets combined with a TDP of 105W. It is priced at $549 replacing the 3900X ($499) and aims to compete with Intel Core i9-10900K.
AMD Ryzen 7 CPUs
Moving on, we have the Ryzen 7 5800X with the same 12 cores and 24 threads. It comes with a base clock speed of 3.8GHz and a boosted clock speed of 4.7GHz. It is built with a single chipset design stacking all eight cores and the whole of 32MB cache on a single CCX. Like the previous above-mentioned CPUs, it comes with 105W TDP. It is priced at $449 and replaces the 3800X ($399). AMD is pitting the Ryzen 7 against the Intel Core i7-10700K.
AMD Ryzen 5 CPU
Finally, we have the Ryzen 5 5600X comes with 6 cores and 12 threads. It has a base clock speed of 3.7GHz and a boost clock speed of 4.6 GHz. The 32MB L3 cache is combined with a reduced 65W TDP. In addition, Ryzen 5 will be the only model to come with a stock cooler. The pricing is set at $299 replacing the Ryzen 5 3600X ($249). It will compete with the 6-core Intel i5-10600K. The Ryzen 5000 Series will go on sale from November 5 with B550 motherboards and X570 chipsets inside. For users with B450, the update via BIOS is set to roll out from January 2021 allowing them to swap the existing CPUs with these new ones.
The Zen 3 architecture based on which the new lineup is built offers a 19% improvement in IPC (Instructions Per Clock). It helps the company to boost performance without compromising power efficiency. The company has replaced the monolithic design with a chipset design, resulting in more cores but at the cost of latency. The company explains the hike in price by $50 for each model is because of a lack of non-X SKUs. AMD has also shared benchmark figures for the first time comparing the 5900X against 10900K, both having 16GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM and 2080 Ti. In the comparison, the AMD setup easily manages to beat that of Intel’s.
