The POCO X2 might not be the actual successor to the POCO F1 that we all adore and love. But there’s no argument to the fact that the X2 is one of the best if not the best in it’s the category. This year POCO aims at dominating the mid-range category of the X2. Check here (link here) of the complete review of the X2. This article is for the gamers out there who are in doubt if the X2 is worth the price.
The X2 comes with the latest Snapdragon 730G. The G is an indication that the chip was designed with gamers in mind. The 730G is a much more refined version of the 730 with a 15% boost to its Adreno 618 GPU. This amps up the graphics rendering capabilities and also enables true HDR gaming. Under the hood, the CPU consists of an 8nm octa core chip with two ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at up to 2.2 GHz and a power efficiency cluster of six small ARM Cortex-A55 cores at up to 1.8 GHz. Paired with up to 8GB of RAM the performance of the X2 is impressive. It scored 281803 on AnTuTu Benchmarks and a single-core score of 548 and a multi-core score of 1758 on Geekbench. These are pretty good scores for a mid-range device.
The X2 comes with a 6.6 inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. The widescreen is especially great for gaming and multimedia. The 120hz refresh rate is a sight to behold when it works but unfortunately, it rarely works outside the UI. Hopefully, third-party apps might start utilizing the 120hz display in the future. As far as the battery is concerned the POCO packs a great 4500mah battery and can easily last throughout the day even with the 120hz refresh rate. The 27W fast charger that comes in the box ensures that the device is fully charged within an hour.
Now about gaming, we tested several mainstream titles such as PUBG Mobile, COD Mobile, etc. The results were really great. As you know PUBG Mobile is currently capped at 60fps. No matter what phone you are using you can only go as far as 60fps.
So even the 120hz display the fps still remains 60. Unfortunately, the X2 requires the use of GFX tools to get up to 60 fps or else the game allows only up to 40 fps in smooth and balanced modes(ultra frame rate in PUBG). Without the GFX tools, the X2 is able to give out constant 40 fps in both smooth and balanced and 30fps in HD graphics settings. Even though the 730G is capable of playing in HDR and Ultra HD for some reason the game doesn’t allow you to do so. But this can be fixed easily with the help of GFX Tools. With or without the GFX Tools the X2 is powerful enough to give consistent frame rates with almost zero lags or stutters or anything of that sort. Personally I feel the 40fps will be fine even for professional players.
On the other hand COD Mobile supports 60fps for up to high settings and 40 fps in very high settings. Just like in PUBG the gameplay is butter smooth without any sort of hiccup. The X2 has not let us down and since it performed well in PUBG and COD we reckon it will handle anything you throw at it without breaking a sweat.
The only issue that bothered us in terms of gaming is that the phone tends to heat up around the camera area. It heats up to a maximum of 43 degrees Celsius. It isn’t uncomfortable to hold but still can be annoying some times. And this happens only while playing heavy games and similar heavy tasks and will cool down within a couple of minutes once all apps are closed. As for normal usage, the X2 will handle them without any sort of heating.
For a phone starting from just ₹17,499, the X2 offers spectacular value for money. The final verdict that if you are a gaming enthusiast and planning to spend on the X2 it is definitely worth it.
